Residents receiving City curbside service can request bulky-item pickup. Virginia Beach asks for the request at least three days before the regular weekly trash day; confirm the accepted items and set-out instructions with the request.
A household furniture list should be separate from renovation fixtures and debris. If items remain upstairs or in a garage, decide who will carry them to the collection point before relying on curbside service.
Choose the correct yard-waste arrangement
The City's weekly yard route accepts up to 25 clear bags weighing no more than 25 pounds each and one prepared 4-by-4-by-4-foot limb pile. Check the current limb instructions before cutting and setting out branches.
City rental containers are for specified yard material, with no plastic bags inside. They exclude stumps, root balls, bamboo, soil and building debris, and cannot be used by contractors or mechanically loaded. Describe a larger landscaping job before requesting one.
Check the vehicle as well as the resident load
The Landfill and Resource Recovery Center restricts entry to qualifying residential vehicles. Cargo vans, ladder racks, commercial signs and work equipment can make a vehicle ineligible even when the waste came from your own home.
Check residency documents, trailer conditions and the exact material before hiring or borrowing transport. Confirm the unloading arrangement too, particularly for heavy furniture or a mixed project load.
Allow for access and seasonal street restrictions
For public-space use, check Virginia Beach's right-of-way process before arranging delivery. Construction involving lane or sidewalk closures in the Oceanfront and Sandbridge areas faces restrictions from May 1 through September 30, with an approved-variance process.
