Sort Cape Town waste before choosing a route
The City publishes a network of drop-off facilities for recyclables, bulky garage waste, garden waste and other listed materials. Accepted categories differ by site, so choose the facility by waste stream rather than simply travelling to the nearest pin on a map.
Waste brought to a drop-off should be sorted. Keep clean builders rubble and clean garden material apart from mixed household waste, e-waste and anything hazardous, then check the selected facility before travelling.

Plan builders rubble and skip placement carefully
Clean rubble can include broken brick, sand, stone, cement and plaster, but a renovation load may also contain timber, packaging, fittings or restricted material. Describe the actual mix because a clean-rubble route may not accept a mixed strip-out load.
For skip hire, photograph the driveway or intended position and mention slopes, security access, overhead clearance and road exposure. Do not assume a public road, pavement or estate space can be used without the relevant approval.

Know when municipal drop-off is not the right fit
City guidance says its drop-offs primarily receive household waste. Limited commercial recyclables, garden waste or builders rubble may be accepted when brought in a vehicle with a carrying capacity of 1.5 tonnes or less, but the official in charge should be consulted.
E-waste and harmful or hazardous material are accepted only at specified facilities. Asbestos, chemicals, contaminated material and other specialist waste should never be hidden inside an ordinary skip or rubble load.

Skip hire usually suits renovation or clearance waste that will build up over several days and has a safe placement point. Rubble removal suits a ready load when carrying, loading or a single clear-out visit is the main requirement.
Commercial premises should separate recurring general waste and recycling from fit-out debris, bulky clearances and construction rubble. Include trading hours, storage constraints, loading access and each waste stream when requesting a quote.
