Schedule Columbus bulk collection before set-out
Columbus collects eligible bulky household items only after the resident schedules a pickup through 311. Furniture, mattresses, prepared carpet and non-refrigerant appliances can fit that route, while bags, boxes and open containers of ordinary trash do not count as bulk.
Placement follows the property's normal collection arrangement: curb-served homes use the front of the property, while alley-served homes use the property edge at the alley. Carpet must be rolled and tied, glass taped and furniture left assembled for the scheduled day.

Keep Columbus yard waste separate from household trash
Eligible Columbus households receive biweekly yard-waste collection. Leaves, grass and small branches must use biodegradable paper bags or reusable containers marked Yard Waste, while branches need to be cut, tied and kept within the City's size limits.
Plastic bags, branches over four inches in diameter and overweight bundles will not fit the curbside route. Larger landscaping projects, stumps, soil-heavy loads and contractor-generated material may need a yard-waste dumpster or private collection instead.

Use private routes for building and restricted material
Columbus bulk collection excludes excavating and building materials, refrigerated appliances, tires and hazardous or explosive waste. Renovation debris therefore needs a private dumpster, crew-led collection or approved disposal facility rather than a bulk appointment.
A construction-related dumpster or storage container occupying Columbus public right-of-way requires the relevant 903 occupancy permit. Oil-based paint, gasoline, solvents, pesticides and similar household hazardous waste should use the current SWACO facility or collection-event route rather than ordinary trash.
